I will be the first to admit. I was willing to give ‘Up’ a miss! Seriously, the preview was this grumpy old guy, a kid who looks alot like humpy dumpy and a house of balloons. Hardly what one will call enticing materials. Boy was I happily proven wrong by the folks at Pixar. The movie is by far in my point of view is the best animation movie created from the studio. It is a beautiful, funny and heartfelt story masterfully told and rendered to the point of perfection. A note to everyone, don’t be a scrooge, go watch Up in full 3d version, it is definitely worth the buck to visually experience in the movie bright and crisp animations in its full eye popping 3d glory.
I never expected that the opening prologue of the movie would leave the most lasting impression to me. Using the power of pictures and a beautiful musical score, we see the life-long love story of Carl and Ellie in a 5mins wordless montage full of love, joy and sadness.
They work in zoo -she is a zookeeper and he sells balloon. They go for long picnics and make animal pictures in the sky. They share pain and love and financial trials. And year after year, their great dream of adventure slip just a little further away until they are old. And then Ellie dies…
So magical and graceful the sequence that it will leave you all choke up with emotion and even shame most of the romance flicks churned out by Hollywood yearly by the truckload . I not even paiseh to admit that even i had a few ‘sand in the eye’ moments during those five minute.
So here to all you spouses, couples and lovebirds out there – take a page out of Carl and Ellie love story, keep sharing your dreams with each other and most important of all, realize that at the end of day Love isn’t just about that one big adventure in life but all the little adventures string together over time.
