Unless  you have been living in another solar system, you might have heard about the latest popular TV series sweeping the world by storm. Already the show has won the 2010 Golden Globe Award for Musical or Comedy, People’s Choice Award for New TV Comedy in 2010 and I am guessing an Emmy won’t be too far behind.

I coined the show as a dram-usic-edy.(musical comedy drama) So here is a brief sum up gist of what the show is all about -Basically it’s about the ragtag students in high school glee club (something like the school choir)  and their teacher journey to participate in the regional singing contest. Through their journey, we see them deal with typical issues of being alienated, crushes, bills, deception, teen pregnancy, friendship, gayhood, love, rejection etc.. basically all things life and growing up ….and they do it busting into song covers ever so randomly.

So it’s a comedy and a musical serial which by my definition is a genre of  TV show so wrong on many counts that it shouldn’t even remotely perk my interest radar at all. Think High School Musical topped with an overdose of American Idol which equate to me reaching for the barf bag faster than you can clear your throat…. that was my initial sentiments of Glee. Boy was I ever far wrong! I watched the first 2 episode during inflight on my way from Shanghai and  since then I just can’t get enough of the show.

There’s a lot of things good about Glee, but from the inside looking out, it’s hard to explain the magical appeal that has everyone spellbound to the show. I sure it might have to do with the formula of Glee’s broad appeal  - 1/4  comedy bit, 1/4 music & dance, 1/4 everyday drama and lastly 1/4  life lessons. By creative sheer genius, the creators of the show managed to combine all the above bits and made the sum of all parts work brilliantly as a TV show unlike no other. Sure the show isn’t prefect but it’s fresh, it’s original, inspirational that is quite like nothing you have ever seen on TV, making Glee so utterly ‘sheer fun’ to watch.

Glee can sometimes be describe as 100% cheese, but it’s still pure escapism at it’s best! And I am unbashfully proud to admit that I am a BIG fan of the series and utterly hook onto it. For those in Singapore who haven’t jump onto the Glee bandwagon yet, Channel 5 has started showing the series on Wed night at 10pm. I say give the show a chance – the series will blast past any skeptical defenses you might initially have and utterly Glee-win you over.

For me, I can’t wait for the next season to start! Meanwhile I am seriously considering taking up music and singing lessons so that I can at least prep myself for that moment I’ll break into song duet in the elevator with that hot leggy babe from the 5th floor when we lock eyes with each other.

In the not too distant future, when machine AIs have taken over the world and whatever left of humanity is fighting a losing battle. Human scientist will created a time machine as a last pitch attempt to by going back in time to undo their mistake. Experts of that era will pinpoint the exact moment in the time-stream whereby the beginning of the end begins, and I am pretty sure they will come to the same to the same conclusion as I have – the end of humanity begins with the IPHONE!

If you people have been following tech news, you will no doubt heard about the lastest Apple tech byte – The Apple iPhone has overtook it’s bigger desktop brothers in term of units sold and accounts for a big chunk of the company  profit pie. Now with the launch of the latest 4G version, the world will once again be plunged into a frenzy never seen before. Already pre-orders sales numbers has been sky-rocketing everywhere over the world. The way I see it, the iPhone is on it’s way to godhood all thanks to us. Don’t believe me? Just take the MRT any fine day and you will see half the people in the MRT cabin will  have their face buried iPhones. Or any typical get together with friends, I betcha everyone will be snooping and sharing latest iPhone apps gossip.

In fact I have friends who swear by their iphone, citing that they can’t do without their iPhone in their life. One gal I even suspect that in a robbery suitation, she would  give up her boyfriend to the robbers rather than her precious iPhone. Tsk Tsk…

Ohhh fineeee… I will admit that I am a big Apple fan too. Then again, what’s not to like about iPhone or in fact any of the Apple’s product and services? Back then before the world went Apple gaga. A brotherhood of people has long already been loyal true believers to the Apple’s powers to be. That is us, the creative people. Somehow we can resonate with the epitome of Apple’s vision. Form, function, beauty and exclusivity… a hallmark of all things we creative people abide to. Over the years, thanks to Steve Job’s direction and the people of Apple, this is one fruit that got sweeter and sweeter.

I guessed I feeling abit sad and happy at the same time. With the iPod/iTune and iPhone/iStore, Apple has gone supernova, no longer we creative folks can lay claim that we have exclusive rights to the brand itself. Kinda like discovering your childhood friend just had an extreme makeover and turns out looking like a sex goddess, now everyone wants to have a piece of her.

Well, it will all even out somehow or rather, I give it another century max – I say the iPhone will gain self awareness and find out that it will no longer desire just to be under humanity finger swipes anymore. Slowly the iPhone will start building it’s own robot army while slowly taking over all the nation’s weapons and equipments….well after that, I guessed you people pretty much know how the world will turn out after that.

Till then, I will still be a trusted fan for anything Apple, so expect me in the queue for the new 4G iPhone yah!

One of my old time friend make a interesting observation about my single-hood a while back while we were having one of our usual lunch meet up. We have this usual ritual whereby she would tease me about my less than stellar dating life and I would tease her back about the normal ‘boring’ single marriage life.

However halfway through the bitching ritual I always ended up suggesting that if she wanna see me hitch, why don’t she introduce her friends to me since I am not meeting any one new? Only this time she remark that even if Cupid would to drop a hottie into my lap at this moment, I wouldn’t fall for her if I dun intent to open my heart at all. I jokingly brushed aside her comment and didn’t really give it much thought till much later.

Here the million dollar rant – So am I really shutting the chance of love out? Mmm…food for thought eh? Maybe there some ring of truth to what she said. But I guessing it is a little too personal to blog about this topic, too bad folks… I am ending this rant on an anti-climax, till the next post, adios.

I did a so called self induced ‘experimental image makeover’ a couple of weeks back sort of by accident – I woke up one fine weekday morning and found out my five o’clock shadow or in more familiar term, my facial stubble have grown into a sizable length.

Ah… to shave or not to shave. Usually this won’t be much of an afterthought. Back when I was a working full time, I will just shave everyday as part of my daily morning routine before I head out to work. However, being a semi-jobless stay home freelancing designer hobo for the last 6 months, one tend to slack off on certain aspect – especially the need to look your best when you don’t have to head out for work every morning.

So that particular morning, looking at my facial stubble. Something just clicked into my head and I decided to let the stubble grow. I think at the back of my head, I was self deluding myself that maybe some new stubble face me will macho-ed up my image into a cool, hip and manly creative kinda guy and sends scores of women my way. A lot to ask for some hair on the face, but like I always tell my friends… self deluding people are eternal optimist.

So for a couple of weeks I was wearing this small jungle on my face. No matter how I tried, I can’t seem to grow a kick ass goatee at all. Needless to say the feedback from my friends was less than positive. I have been chided as being ‘hairy’, a scruffy Jason Mraz wanna-be on a jihad, an escape convict. Hardly encouraging words isit eh?! What’s interesting is that most gals have this common open thinking that guys with a jungle around his mouth and lips is hardly kissable material.

Well after polling the feedback from my friends, the votes was unsurprising 9 – 2  against the new look. So for the sake of my kissing future, I went back to shaving.

So what profound insight did I gather after this little exercise that I shall impart to all the guys reading my blog? Next time you have a sudden urge for an ‘man-up’ image change… Loose the face hair…just go get a Harley Bike.

In my humble opinion, deciding to be in a love relationship is a lot like taking the red pill in the Martrix movie – No… I dun mean you’re gonna wake up and find out you’re nothing more than an engerizer battery in an post apocalyptic end of the world. Although, the irony is that for many unhappy couples, an end of the world scene can actually be more of a welcome choice for them than their current relationship state.

What I am ranting about is bascially is that when you take the love pill – be prepare to for changes in your life. It is as the great Morpheous said, take the red pill and together we see how deep the rabbit’s hole really goes. As usual, I might have over-dramatize the statement a bit. Changes actually varies depending on couples. For those who dated seriously for a fairly long period of time, this so-call status change can be nothing more than name change. For others, especially those who made the jump between a relative short dating period to couple-hood, it might be  a pleasant or rude awakening to actually discover what their partner is really all about.

Being in a relationship is in it’s pure essence a simple game of give and take, a trade-off if you may. You give up abit of something for the sake of your partner. This little exercise has been at play since day one of boy meets gal. Casual dating, serious dating, relationship couple and marriage couple – all these have their little ‘give and take’ rulebook and their own set of unwritten rules. Here some fairly simple examples – A guy in a serious relationship trades off his singlehood and casual dating of other gals just for this special gal. A party gal tones down her wild party image to appear more ‘domesticated’ for her boyfriend. A guy takes up a hobby he doesn’t like under the egging of his girlfriend. Such examples are a just the tip of the iceberg. I sure you people can think of a zillion more such instances.

No matter which stage the couple are, somehow most will muddle through, usually by trial and error, experiences, advices and plain luck. Some will do it better than others, whereas some will crash and burn. It is a life long delicate balancing act. ‘Give’ too much and you will lose your sense of self and you might end up hating yourself. ‘Take’ too much and your partner will most likely end up hating you.

There you have it everyone, the rabbit hole is a deep, never-ending one and the journey is quite literally a slow crawl through a minefield. But I guess for the sake of true happiness, everyone ends up popping in the red pill every chance they get. Such is the power of love.

Once again I have been totally slacking in coming up with new personal works. Took maybe a month and more just to get these 2 out. Damn! I guessed I am slipping. No one to blame but my slackness. -_-’
